A Decade of Community in Action: Reflecting on 10 Years of TEDxTinHau Women

Ten years ago, a spark was lit in Hong Kong. As the city’s longest-standing TEDx event dedicated to women, TEDxTinHau Women set out with a simple yet profound ethos: to center on community and people, and to provide a stage for the vital, sometimes uncomfortable conversations that define what makes Hong Kong, well, Hong Kong.

Looking back over a decade of community action, TEDxTinHau Women has never been just a platform for ideas. True to our roots, we have always believed that powerful stories must be paired with meaningful support for the people on the ground. Over the last 10 years, this commitment has translated into partnering with and championing a list of extraordinary local charities – 23 of them, and counting – the true unsung heroes shaping our city’s soul.

As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we look back at the interconnected web of community action we have woven together across a few core themes…

1. Elevating Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equity

At our core lives the mission to uplift women and girls. Over the last decade, we have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with organizations dedicated to leveling the playing field, protecting migrant domestic workers, and empowering young women. We’ve spotlighted the vital work of:

  • Enrich, empowering migrant domestic workers through financial literacy.
  • HER Fund, mobilizing resources for grassroots women’s advancement.
  • Teen’s Key, providing holistic support for young women in crisis.
  • Women helping Women, fighting domestic violence and supporting victims.
  • Inspiring Girls, driving young women to aim high and break glass ceilings.
  • PathFinders, ensuring that every migrant mother and her Hong Kong-born baby are protected and respected.

2. Nurturing Youth & Education

The future of Hong Kong belongs to its youth, and our community partnerships have heavily focused on giving young people the tools, literacy, and mental health support they need to thrive. We’ve been proud to amplify:

3. Safeguarding Environmental Sustainability

Hong Kong is a city of stunning contradictions—where dense concrete jungles meet rolling country parks and vast coastlines. Preserving this unique habitat has been a driving force behind our environmental partnerships. We have championed:

  • Redress, fighting textile waste and driving a circular economy in fashion.
  • Hong Kong Cleanup, mobilizing citizens to keep our trails and beaches pristine.
  • Plastic Free Seas, educating the next generation on marine plastic pollution.
  • Feeding Hong Kong, rescuing surplus food to feed those facing food insecurity.

4. Championing Social Inclusion & Community Support

What makes Hong Kong truly great is its resilience and the way neighbors step up for neighbors. We have used our platform to support organizations that tackle systemic poverty, homelessness, and structural gaps, ensuring no one gets left behind:

  • ImpactHK, walking alongside the homeless to help them find a safe home and sustainable employment.
  • Grassroots Future, supporting and building self-sufficiency within Hong Kong’s refugee and asylum seeker community.
  • Habitat for Humanity, advocating for decent, affordable housing and improving living conditions for the elderly and vulnerable.
  • Splash Foundation, providing under-resourced communities with life-saving swimming skills and a connection to our waters.
  • TNN (The New Normal), offering peer-led grief and mental health support.

5. Celebrating Diversity, Well-being & Health

A diverse Hong Kong is a vibrant Hong Kong. True community action means embracing every unique individual and ensuring everyone has access to basic needs, dignity, and mental well-being. We have been honored to partner with:

  • Diversity Hub, advocating for workplace inclusion and systemic equity.
  • Love21, empowering the Down syndrome and autistic community through sport, nutrition, and holistic support.
  • Sailability Hong Kong, making the joy of sailing accessible to people with disabilities.
  • SENsational Foundation, creating equal employment opportunities for individuals with Special Educational Needs.

Announcing our 2026 Community Partners

When you look at the tapestry of charities, you see the very definition of Hong Kong: a city that is fiercely ambitious but deeply compassionate. A city that has always thrived because of its people. With

For ten years, TEDxTinHau Women has strived to be the bridge connecting these vital causes to an audience ready to listen, learn, and act. We have honored the shared collective will that constantly goes beyond certainty and into the unknown, the unseen, and the unexplored. And our journey doesn’t end here.

Stepping into our milestone year, we are thrilled to expand our network of community action by welcoming three new charity partners in our 2026 event, each tackling critical gaps in social justice, gender equity and financial literacy, and women’s health:

  • Pro Bono HK: Dedicated to broadening access to justice, this independent non-profit provides free legal services and education to the city’s most vulnerable and marginalized communities, ensuring the rule of law protects everyone regardless of financial means.
  • Girls Just Want to Have Fund$: A financial literacy and empowerment community focused on breaking down structural barriers around women and money. They provide financial education to help close the gender investing gap and give women the confidence to secure their financial futures.
  • Phenomenally Pink: Originally rooted in Hong Kong’s sports community, this grassroots organization campaigns for proactive breast cancer awareness and preventative healthcare, famously mobilizing resources to fund life-saving mammograms for underserved populations and domestic helpers.

Step Into the Uncharted: Our 2026 Event

As we hit our decade mark, we invite you to step into the next decade of ideas and community action. This year’s flagship event will take place on October 2, 2026, under the powerful theme: Uncharted.

Our event this year aims to chart new paths of thought, daring to speak ideas that have no precedent. Uncharted embodies this essence, inviting us into conversations that have no script, no safe harbor, but only, and perhaps most importantly, the courage to explore.

Here, in a city that reinvents itself with every tide and knows how to navigate uncertainty, the uncharted is a calling. Be part of the conversation that shapes the next ten years. Learn more, grab your tickets, and join our community at TEDxTinHau Women. Together, we will explore what it means to navigate unknown territories, embrace uncertainty, break new ground, and redefine our futures.
